Top 5 Reasons to go to Pismo Beach
By Ruth Collis of PismoBeachPhotos.com
by Ruth Collis 1. Absolute Beauty I have never seen such breathtaking cliffs sit peacefully against green rolling hills of Pismo Beach that offer a peace and serenity of getting away from it all; nor realize how much hearing the seagulls and watching the pelicans glide in numbers, can slowly melt away all the stress of every day living. AND Pismo Beach is great for not only having cliff beauty, but also has a regular sandy beach with swings nearby the Pismo Beach Pier, a long stretch of sand for kite surfing, and famous dunes for all off-road riding fun... my kind of action. 2. Diverse Things to Do One year I had to try out this restaurant downtown called The Cracked Crab, where they actually dump a big bucket of crab legs and other goodies literally right on your table; but I still have yet to see the Butterfly Groves during the late and early part of the year where the trees turn orange from so many Monarch's visiting to nest among the leaves. After rocking all day in the sand dunes along the beautiful beach with my quad rental, and seeing other blasting dune buggies, sandrails, motorcycles, hummer rides and off-road vehicles having the time of their lives sailing through the air, I had to visit the restaurant right nearby in the Oceano part of Pismo Beach, where two train cars have been turned into a Rock & Roll Diner. I got their newly fitted T-shirt in RED that fit great! Next day was to Splash Cafe for their famed clam chowder in a bread bowl. (Ok, my man could try that, but they had chili in a bread bowl that was just as great for me. Ah, yum!) Plus they have clamshell murals that are cool to check out. Seems one of the things I must do every time is kayak among the gorgeous cliff caves at Dinosaur Park, where I can see all the kelp varieties, jellyfish, sea otters, and wildlife galore; then on to the Avila Beach drive and check out all the seals and sea lions at the end of Hartford Pier where the fishing boats come in to unload. Fishermen throw the hungry pelicans off their boat in efforts to scramble at what leftovers they can find to eat. If you fish there, you might also get annoyed at finding pelicans on top of your vehicle when you come back to it, but is way cool for a photographer to capture the pelican's drying their wings in spread out flying motion, while just sitting there. If you can save up long enough, it is the best time to stay in quaint inns overlooking the sea, or a different kind of blast to camp on the beach, and for about $10 a night and fall asleep with the waves gently crashing. Wake for a BBQ breakfast, or go to brunch in town overlooking the sea at the Marisol Restaurant. That is the best brunch ever. But then you can't miss the lovely after-brunch walk outside along the cliff-side where other hotels are and see their dreamy pools and statue fountains along the edge of the sea. One of my most favorite things to do is look at the fine homes there for ideas of how I want my house to look one day. That also goes along with seeing art galleries in town, or the Pismo Garden Art building, where you can look at sculptures or fountains for adding peace and tranquility to your yard. In the summer months, Art by the Sea is a small community fair held once a month of local artists. There's so many things to do at Pismo Beach, even as simple as taking a camera with zoom, and capture a surfer off the Pismo Beach Pier. I still have not tried getting an aerial view in a plane tour, and have yet to see the elephant seals in San Simeon, near the lighthouse, which is right by Hearst Castle farther North of Pismo. South of Pismo Beach is the the quaint Danish town of Solvang that have horse and carriage rides and fun shops to see. 3. Is Nearby If you're in the Inland Empire Valley of Southern California, Pismo Beach is only 4 hours away... a place close enough to not spend much in getting there, but feels like you're far away for all the beauty and things to do. 4. Photographer's Paradise Just go to Margo Dodd Park, South of Dinosaur Caves Park, where both parks have a seaside view of cliff islands, Pelican Rock, kayakers, and great sunsets. In the same area are fine homes to get landscaping ideas from, for your own house. And right at the edge of the Best Western, Shelter Cove there, is a trail that leads down to a big arch hole worn in the cliff, where waves come crashing through. I'm not kidding you. If you want computer wallpaper, or to make your own postcards, this is the place to go. 5. You can Never See it All I have gone to Pismo Beach year after year and am still amazed at how much this place keeps me coming back again and again for more and new things to do each time, and how much fun it is to show whoever I can the wonders of what I find there. There's always a new restaurant to try, different place to stay at, or sight to see. See my photos at www.PismoBeachPhotos.com and pick yourself up a wallpaper there for free. |
